Brown Bag It
Sunday 20 July 2008Want to save $2000 or more a year? It’s as easy as taking your lunch. Of course the estimate is an average, but it’s one that is per adult. That means if there are two adults in your home that work outside of the home then your savings could easily top $4000 a year.
That is more then you could make at a second job working ten hours a week 52 weeks a year at minimum wage. Have children? and they don’t qualify for free or reduced lunch? Keep adding up the savings….. According to MSN back in June the average cost of a school lunch for a high schooler was $1.90. That being an average means that some of us are over and some under, me I’m over by $1 or more. So if your in an area like mine where lunch can cost $2.90 and up that can really add up. Especially if you have more than one child, I have four. So my savings will added up faster then someone who pays the national average and only has one child.
So my savings could top over $6000. That is with buying the extra food to make the lunches. With the price of gas becoming a bigger part of the budget and prices going up everywhere saving money anywhere is a help. Saving enough to still be able to have have extras without going more in debt can make tightening the pocketbook a little easier.
